More treats for football fans

A daily feast of football, that’s what fans can expect when the new season of the English Premier League kicks off in August.

SingTel, which won the broadcast rights for the lucrative content for three years starting with the 2010 season, is rolling out a line—up of programmes to cater to all tastes and ages.

For the first time ever, fans in Singapore will be able to catch ’live’ all 380 matches of the Barclays Premier League.

There will be nine shows throughout the week, meaning BPL fans can tune in to a fresh programme every day of the week.

A Sunday morning highlights show will offer comprehensive analysis, full highlights and full studio presentation.

This is something that has not been seen in Singapore in the last three years.

Another offering will be the fans feedback show, which will feature a full review of the weekend action and allow interaction via a combination of video, email and SMS.

Well—respected hosts and pundits will feature in the "live" football coverage for next season, and fans can also expect several famous ex—BPL stars to make appearances in Singapore.

Another bonus — Mio TV customers will win trips to UK to watch the actual matches, and there will also be monthly on—the—ground events across Singapore to engage fans.

SingTel CEO, Allen Lew, thinks the new offering is not an overdose of football.

He said: "The next phase for us between now and August, when we really have to deliver this, is to work to see who is the best partner to be our production agency and who is the best partner that can deliver this to us."

Pricing for the package has been announced and the latest move, SingTel feels, will woo more customers, ahead of the August kick—off of the 2010 EPL season.

Already, the telco says that it has seen a 70 percent increase in Mio TV subscribers after it announced the "early bird offer" in late 2009.
